June 30, 2006 – Last night and just as the Haute
Couture fashion shows get underway in Paris, the iconic Reverso celebrated its
75th anniversary in the glorious setting of the Rodin Museum.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Chief Executive, Jérôme Lambert, greeted over 1,000 friends of
the press and invited guests who discovered the resolutely modern personality of
the new REverso Squadra men’s line.
Among the most noteworthy international guests was Mr. Buzz Aldrin, who
participated in the Apollo 11 mission et was the second person to have walked on
the moon after Neil Armstrong. The Reverso Squadra evening also captured the
admiration of such French celebrities as singer and actor Patrick Bruel, and a
number of famous actors including Pierre Arditi, Thierry Lhermitte, Stephane
Freiss, Bruno Putzulu, Philippe Caroit. Among TV personalities were anchor
Christophe Dechavanne, Claude Serillon and Dominique Chapatte. The evening was
also attended by trend-setting designers Jean Claude Jitrois, Ora Ito and Corine
Cobson.
Jaeger-LeCoultre was also joined by dear friends from the world of polo: players
Clare Mountbatten, the Marquise Milford-Haven; Eduardo Novillo Astrada,
Argentinean champion; and the captain of the French polo team, Mathieu Delfosse.
The inspiration for the now legendary Reverso came at the request of British
polo players in India in 1931. When produced, it was clear that the Reverso was
a revolutionary new concept, the ultimate sports watch capable of resisting
extreme shocks. What’s more is that its pure Art Deco lines and cosmopolitan
refinement made the Reverso an instant hit in London and Paris. And so, as a
tribute to the original patent filing in Paris in March 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre
chose Paris to celebrate the latest Reverso collection including a bold new
line, Reverso Squadra.
The master watchmakers, enamellers and gemsetters of the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre
were on hand during the evening to share their knowledge and expertise with the
guests. There was perhaps no better venue than the splendid and historic Rodin
Museum, where hand craftsmanship and creativity are exhalted. Guests enjoyed a
beautiful summer’s night inside and in the private gardens of the Rodin Museum
where Jaeger-LeCoultre added touches of magic, including sights, flavours and
sounds of the East and stunning images of Jaeger-LeCoultre on the polo grounds.
Once again, the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre, the reference in fine watchmaking,
demonstrated its creativity, modernity, sophistication and confidence to
reinvent itself and its icon, and invent the future.
